COUGH SWEETS
Clove
Drops |

|
We have always thought
that these individually wrapped sweets with the healing and distinctive
aroma of cloves were much more an adult's sweet than many we sell.
They're certainly very traditional and in one form or another have
been around since the 19th century, since when such boiled sweet
recipes have changed very little. It was in the 1800s that sugar
from the West Indies became plentiful in Britain and this allowed
familes to experiment by sweet making in their homes. Clove drops
- delicious to the connoiseur but not for the faint hearted.

Herbal
Tablet |

|
It's called
a tablet because of the shape and this is one to reach for
when your cockles need warming or your nose starts running.
Very difficult to eat just the one. Recommended for the
person seeking a "different" cough sweet.

Throat
and Chest |

|
Great for a
sore throat or chest with rich liquorice flavours. Not to
be confused with Army and Navy which we're convinced looks
and tastes exactly the same.

Honey
and Lemon Menthols |

|
They're over
a hundred years old now (the brand, not our stock) so shall
we call them "traditional" or "old fashioned"?
It's still a soothing mouth watering combination that could
help clear the throat and will certainly cheer up a cold
Winter's day.
